Air-Gapped Transcription
Record any conversation and watch it turn into text in real time — entirely on your phone, even in airplane mode.
What it does
The Record tab turns spoken audio into clean text as you record. A live waveform shows your microphone input, and the transcript streams in beneath it as you speak. When you’re done, one tap copies the full transcript as plain text, ready to paste anywhere.
Every step — capture and transcription — happens on your device. Nothing is uploaded, and the feature works with no internet connection at all.
When to use it
- Capturing a meeting, interview, or lecture you want as searchable text.
- Dictating notes, ideas, or a draft hands-free.
- Recording a sensitive or confidential conversation that must never leave your phone.
- Taking notes somewhere with no signal — on a plane, underground, or off-grid.
How it works
- Open the Record tab.
- Tap the microphone button. The first time, VoiceScribe asks for microphone and speech-recognition permission — grant both to begin.
- Confirm consent. VoiceScribe asks you to confirm that everyone present has been informed and consents to being recorded. Recording starts only after you confirm.
- Speak. The waveform responds to your voice and the transcript appears live as the words are recognized.
- Tap Pause to pause and resume capture without ending the session; tap Stop when you’re done.
- Tap Copy transcript to put the full text on your clipboard.
Free vs Premium
- Free: recording (up to 2 minutes per session), automatic paragraph formatting, on-device transcription, and plain-text copy.
- Scribe Pass: unlimited continuous recording. (Free sessions are capped at 2 minutes; Scribe Pass removes the cap.)
Privacy
Everything stays on device. VoiceScribe does not collect, transmit, or persist any data off your device. Speech recognition is configured for on-device use only — VoiceScribe never sends your audio or transcript to a server, and the feature works fully in airplane mode.
VoiceScribe asks you to confirm everyone consents before each recording and stores the time you confirm on-device with that recording — a local record to support your own compliance, never transmitted. Obtaining lawful consent where it’s required is your responsibility; this isn’t legal advice. The screen stays awake while a recording is active so it can’t sleep mid-capture.
⚠️ Note: If your device or language can’t transcribe on-device, VoiceScribe tells you transcription is unavailable rather than sending your audio anywhere.
Known limits
- Transcription accuracy and the supported languages are those of Apple’s on-device speech recognition.
- On-device transcription requires a device and language that support it; where it isn’t available, recording still works but live text does not.
- Free recording sessions are capped at 2 minutes; longer continuous capture requires Scribe Pass.
